So you built your house and your kitchen was the best back then but now not so much? Is your kitchen no longer meeting your needs? Today I will share some kitchen remodelling tips with you.

The first step is to have a plan and an estimate budget for the project. Answering the following questions can help in formulating a plan and coming up with a budget:

Qn. 1. What inspired the remodel?

What prompted you to remodel the kitchen? It may have been lack of storage space, change in requirements or just the need for something new and fresh. The reason why you undertook this project will help a lot in determine what you need  and how much. You may need more natural light to come in the kitchen or a bigger island. This should be your starting point and it will also help answer the following questions.

Qn. 2. How do you want to use your kitchen?

As much as the kitchen is for preparing food, keeping your utensils and food stuff, others want it to accommodate a number of people at a time. Others want a chef’s kind of kitchen i.e. the gulley kitchen while others want a ‘social’ kitchen i.e. where people can sit and talk. You will also have to determine how many people you might have in the kitchen at the same time and make allowance for them.

Qn. 3. Do you like freshly prepared food or already made food?

This is all about the amount of food storage space you will need. If you are more of an already made food you will need more storage space for your food. This may mean having a bigger fridge, food cupboard and in some instances a bigger pantry. If you are all for freshly prepared food you will need less storage space for pre cooked food.

Qn. 4. In with the new and out with the old?

Ask yourself if you are going to use some stuff from the old kitchen or you want everything to be new. Will you be putting in totally different cabinetry and floors or not? Ensure all materials, colours and textures are predetermined and for this you may need to visualise all this first before going ahead.
