Let us talk about patio or veranda doors so that you can choose one that suits your taste and style.
There is the traditional wooden door we all know and love. The wooden door is a widely used option and has been used a lot both in and outside the house. This door can be customised with designs of choice as well as a stylish door knob or handle. Wooden doors can be glazed or painted to avoid them being affected by moisture or looking dull with time.
Pivot doors shown in the picture, have been around for a while now and are usually for the main home entrance. The pivot door was mainly wood but this has changed as there are now glass pivot doors. The door is fixed at so that it opens on two sides though it is not centrally fitted.
The most familiar of the glass doors are the good old french doors. The french door is made of glass and has a metal frame as well as lock. In addition to that is the french slider which is a sliding door that looks more like a french door. This is a modern version of the french door we are used to.
Recently there have been improvements in the glass door style which has led to pivot doors and folding glass doors. These have also made their appearance in the modern door designs. These can be opened and folded onto one side of the opening therefore they have a wide opening. This is ideal where one wants to merge the outdoors and the indoors say on a hot day.
The folding glass doors have led to the fold or slide up glass doors which have the same mechanism as that of a garage slide up door. When they are slid up they leave a wide open space. However for entrance doors they are still used mainly for the garage.
Telescoping doors though not as common as their counterparts are the best when you want to open up as much space as possible. The doors, just like a telescope, slide one before the other on the far end of the opening. The rail will take up space from the room or the veranda so do not forget to factor this in. There maybe 4 doors so you can imagine the space it opens up. These are mainly used for commercial area as they allow for high traffic and are a bit on the expensive side.
If you decide you want the traditional wooden door or french door you will have to decide if it will be an in-swing or out-swing. Where there is furniture near the entrance inside, the doors can be out-swinging and vice versa where there is furniture near the door outside.
Get the right door for your patio and merge your interior to your ulterior when you have a party say on a friday like today, to keep an eye on the kids playing outside or it is a hot day and you want to feel the cool air inside the house.
