Storage is an important factor when one wants to declutter, enhance the airiness of a room and just to keep things organised in the house. In this article we talk about the essential questions you need to answer before you can successfully declutter.
1. To keep or not to keep?
Decide on the stuff you want to keep and that which you no longer need. Once this is out of the way go to the next question.
2. Fancy it?
Does the stuff in question serve a special purpose? Some stuff we keep because it is of sentimental value more than anything else.
3. Is it in tip top condition?
If it is a gadget, is it still working? Never put into storage something that is not working saying you will get it repaired. It will only be taking up your storage. If it is not working or damaged get rid of it.
4. Duplicate or Not?
Are you keeping two of the same gadget? Donate one or give away one of the two so that you do not clog your house unnecessarily.
5. For what purpose
Why is it necessary for you to keep it? Is it worth keeping or is it just hard for you to let go?
6. Useful much
Sometimes we tend to hold onto stuff which is no longer useful to us for instance, books from your high school when you are now a masters student. Give those away to your nieces and nephews if your children are past that age or still young.
7. Ease of access
At times the things we put into storage have use at certain times for instance christmas decorations (which are about to come out of storage). The number of times we will need these things determines where to store them. If it’s several times a month then they have to be close and the opposite is true for the christmas decorations which are only ever used once a year.
8. Suitable Storage
After answering these questions identify the best suited storage place for each and every thing you want to put into storage. Some will be best suited to the garage, some the kitchen and so on. Happy decluttering!
