Recently, people have been presented with a lot of colour options. The latest trend is the feature wall that is made to stand out and be the focal point.
It is usually best to paint your feature wall with a colour that contrasts the main colour. If you have used light colours then make the feature wall darker and if you paint with dark colours, for the feature wall use a lighter colour. Choosing the colours for your house is hard but in this article we are going to look at the kind of atmosphere that each colour creates.
Black makes a bold statement and is not a popular choice for painting a house. We all know that dark colours make spaces feel smaller. The beauty of black can however be seen when it is limited to a small portion of a room that is a feature wall, this will add style to your space. Black is also symbolic of power, sophistication and elegance.
Blue gives a room a cool and refreshing ambience and is known to symbolize tranquillity, most suited to the living room or a bedroom where you just want to put your feet up and relax.
Red warms up a room and makes it look alive as we all know, it is the colour that is associated with passion and love. Red is therefore suitable for the bedroom feature wall or rooms where one wants to get creative in for instance, the painting room.
Green symbolises life and growth, a freshness in the cycle of life and so creates an ideal atmosphere for rooms where people usually sit down and just chill out in.
Orange is a bright colour and so naturally it brings with it energy and zeal. Orange is a colour that just oozes joy and fervour so it is ideal to use as a feature wall in bedrooms especially the kid’s bedrooms. The same applies for its lighter counterpart, yellow which makes a room sunny and warm.
Purple is a colour of royalty and so brings with it elegancy, grace and sophistication. In lighter shades it shows an air of femininity and so is perfect for a girl’s bedroom.
Grey is quite the sophisticated colour and as a feature wall it brings a coolness to any room. It is suited best to adult’s bedrooms or the study. Light colours like grey and white make a room more spacious than it actually is. So if you want an airy, heaven like room opt for very light shades of grey or white for your feature wall.
To make the feature wall stand out more, you can place a piece of art on the wall. This will surely catch an eye! Happy painting
