We all knew the clay tile and asbestos trend from the time we were born, but now as you look around it is mostly chromadek you see especially in the new suburbs. .
Locally most people preferred to roof with asbestos in the urban areas especially medium to high densities and in low density suburbs, they mostly preferred concrete tiles. However it was then discovered that exposure to asbestos can result in respiratory illnesses as it contains fibres that aggravate the lungs and may cause scarring. This discovery propelled the search for an alternative material just as economic and classic.
The chromadek trend started becoming visible in the 2010s yet some remained sceptical. TheĀ recent years have seen the chromadek take over roofs in both residential and commercial areas. Available in four main colors which are dove gray, traffic green, kalahari red and charcoal grey, chromadek has proven to be a good asbestos replacement. Chromadek has strength and is durableĀ therefore economical. The fact that it is made with reflective properties aids in air conditioning within a house or office.
The lightness of chromadek has also seen it become the preferred choice as it does not put much stress on the trusses. It saves on construction time as well as costs making it worth reviewing when looking for roofing materials. Most of the houses being built today are covered in chromadek showing how strongly it has entered the construction industry. Others use it for cladding and erecting temporary structures. Those who love the look of tile do not despair as there is the Q-Tile which gives the illusion of roof tiles.
If you choose chromadek, ensure you are going to have a ceiling because you may fail to sleep during rain season as the rain spatters on the metal. Remember, not all pre-painted metal sheets are chromadek.
Happy building!
