So we are going to have a kitchen series where we impart information for you to choose a kitchen design that is best suited to you.
There is the L shape which is widely adopted especially locally. The cabinets follow an L shape and they leave a space in the middle of the room. Usually this space makes it easy for movement within the kitchen. It works well even where the kitchen is small and narrow because the L shape does not restrict movement.
Where the L shape is employed but there is room, the island can be included and used as a sitting area for people other than the cook, giving the cook room to work without interference. This design looks best where there is a great room but might make it difficult for the kitchen space to be defined. This is where the peninsula can work wonders for this kitchen, to define the kitchen space, give extra storage as well as a working area.
U/C shaped kitchens usually have an island which is good when outlining the kitchen area where an open concept plan has been used. This shape has cabinets that make a u shape or c shape. The U/C shape is good where there is room and the kitchen is large but it can be used for small kitchens as well, without the island of course.
