The reason why we build houses is so that we build it to our taste and to suit our lifestyle is it not? This makes a lot of sense but there could be a house built to your taste somewhere out there. So in light of this we ask, to build or to buy?

Building a new house presents the biggest advantage in that satisfaction is guaranteed, it is easier to get a house after your own heart this way.  The fact that you get to experience living in this house first is also a plus. Building a house from scratch ensures you build in line with the modern trends therefore giving your property great value should you consider to sell later. In this case you will build with more favourable material, modern architectural designs and you cater for alternative power sources. Renovations will only be needed many years later.

When you choose to build a new house it will most likely be in a new town which may need servicing from scratch meaning a few years before you can get to . Just ensure that you have access to the council water, sewerage system (i.e. if you not using a septic tank) and electricity (if you are going to be on grid). Schools, shopping areas and the clinic may be a distance away if the town is new meaning more transport money. Ultimately the reason to choose building is that you would get a house of your own liking.

Buying an already built house means you will have to renovate here and there because some things may not be as you want them. There may be a need for refurbishment here and there as well. Just ensure that when you buy a built house, you inspect it thoroughly before making a payment.Buying a house will ensure that you get to live in an already established place. There is most likely going to be schools and clinics nearby which is an advantage.

However, if you do buy a house, it may not have all the elements you want. You may like the floor plan but not the flooring, the bathrooms but not the kitchen. The likelihood of having to renovate is higher in this case. You will then have to consider the total costs involved and see if it is still cost effective to buy the house. If you are lucky you find a house that is built to your liking and you will not have to renovate much.

After doing a cost analysis, if the cost of buying a house and the cost of renovating it to your tastes is more than what it would take you to build a new house, then it will be better if you just build one. We already talked about building materials, the budgeting and the building process so there is nothing new when building a house.
